Body piercings are deeply personal, whether you’re marking a milestone, reclaiming your body, or simply adding to a collection you’ve been building for years. At M.INK Tattooing on Main Street in Winnipeg, Mckala Farrell, our studio founder and lead piercer, approaches every body piercing with the same meticulous care she brings to every service we offer. From a first-time navel to an advanced nape surface piercing, Mckala and our team, Tayler, Violet, and Lex, assess your anatomy thoroughly and place every piercing with precision that lasts.

We use only implant-grade titanium and surgical steel jewellery, single-use sterile needles, and adhere to strict OSHA-aligned protocols throughout every appointment.

Floating Navel

A variation of the classic navel piercing, the floating navel uses a single-point surface anchor at the upper navel rim, ideal for clients whose anatomy doesn’t accommodate a traditional curved barbell. A subtle, healed-beautiful alternative that’s grown in popularity for good reason.

Inverted Nipple

Designed specifically for inverted or flat nipples, this piercing technique helps draw the nipple outward over time while creating a striking aesthetic. Placement and jewellery gauge are carefully selected based on nipple anatomy, Mckala takes particular care to make this appointment comfortable and precise.

Nape

 A horizontal surface piercing across the back of the neck, the nape is one of the most elegant and architectural body piercings available. It requires a thorough anatomy assessment skin thickness and curvature of the neck determine long-term wearability. When it suits you, it’s stunning.

 The navel is one of the most requested body piercings and one of the most frequently done incorrectly elsewhere. At M.INK, we assess your navel depth and rim anatomy before committing to placement, ensuring your curved barbell sits flush, heals flat, and doesn’t migrate. Done right, a navel piercing lasts decades.

Nipple

Nipple piercings require confidence in your piercer, and Mckala delivers exactly that. We assess areola size, nipple projection, and tissue depth to select the correct barbell length and gauge. Both single and paired nipple piercings are available, and your comfort and privacy throughout the appointment are always our priority.

Sternum

A surface piercing running vertically or as an anchor on the sternum between the breasts, the sternum piercing is one of the most visually dramatic body placements we offer. We assess your anatomy, discuss placement and jewellery options, and address any concerns before anything else. For surface and sensitive placements like the nape, sternum, or inverted nipple, this step shapes everything that follows.

Mark and Confirm

We mark the exact placement point and review it with you before proceeding. You confirm the positioning, nothing happens until you’re completely satisfied with what you see.

Pierce and Jewel

Single-use sterile needle, precise and controlled technique, implant-grade jewellery seated immediately. Most body piercings are complete in under 60 seconds from needle to finish.

Aftercare and Brief

Before you leave, we walk you through your full aftercare routine specific to your placement. Tayler and the rest of our team are always reachable by phone or email throughout your healing journey.

Aftercare

  • Aftercare, Protect Your Piercing

Body piercings vary widely in healing time and care requirements. Surface piercings like the nape and sternum need extra vigilance clothing friction, body movement, and skin tension all affect healing. We give you placement-specific guidance at every appointment. The essentials:

Do This:

  • Rinse twice daily with sterile saline spray (NEILMED or equivalent) no soap, no rotation, no ointments.
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel after showering cotton towels snag jewellery and trap moisture.
  • Leave your starter jewellery in for the full healing window navels typically 6–9 months, surface piercings and nipples up to 12 months or more.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing over fresh navel, sternum, and nape piercings to minimize friction.
  • Book a downsize appointment at 6–8 weeks for placements with a longer initial post — this is an important step most people skip.

What to Avoid:

  • Touching or moving your jewellery without clean hands or touching it at all unnecessarily
  • Submerging in pools, hot tubs, lakes, or open water during healing
  • Applying skincare, body lotion, or any topical products directly on or near a fresh piercing
  • Wearing tight waistbands, underwire bras, or restrictive clothing over healing piercings
  • Changing or removing jewellery before the piercing has fully healed

        It depends entirely on placement and individual pain tolerance. Navel and nipple piercings involve a quick, sharp sensation that's over in seconds. Surface piercings like the nape and sternum pierce through more tissue and may feel more intense during placement, but our technique and preparation make the experience as smooth as possible. Most clients say the anticipation is the hardest part.
